The Local Bull, the Texas Hill Country’s market for premium meats, local foods, brews and home provisions! We started with the idea that a brick and mortar retail location was the next step for providing better service to Bucker Creek Ranch’s existing clientele, which we have built one person and one restaurant at a time. Without you early clients, we would not be where we are today and we can’t thank you enough for the opportunities you have given us. Our commitment to you will not change.
COMING SOON!
Johnson City, TX
Welcome!
So why The Local Bull and not the Bucker Creek Ranch store or some other similar name? A business only selling the products of one small ranch is not going to change the status quo. It’s not going to change what’s available to the folks in the Hill Country. It is not doing everything it can to serve and provide value to our community. The Local Bull will be filled with products made here by folks not getting rich, but by folks compelled to work hard to make something better. The Local Bull is not just a mom and pop store, it’s a store for mom and pop businesses which traditionally struggle to find access to the marketplace. Personally, I wanted to push back on the notion that no one wants to work anymore in this country. This place works!
Here’s what you can expect at The Local Bull:
• Premium meats, starting with the Wagyu beef produced by us at Bucker Creek Ranch LLC
• Cheeses and locally produced foods as they come available throughout the year
• Wines and beer with emphasis on local production
• A relaxing place to hang if you have had your fill of shopping in and around Johnson City, Texas
• Local and artisanal home provisions, wares and merchandise.
Taste Is Everything
Seriously, The Beef Makes The Difference.
The same care and attention that goes into white cloth steakhouse steaks goes into our jerky and beef sticks. Is it crazy to want to make something better? Not at this shop.
The Livingston Family
Randy and I haven’t always been ranchers. We actually started out in the legal industry; but after nearly two decades as a trial attorney, Randy decided it was time for a change and we ended up in the Texas hill country running a cattle business. Randy jokes, “Why not? The skills for those two professions are almost exactly the same.” Actually, the only similarity is you can get run over if you aren’t paying attention.
Since the law business and the cow business are so different, we had a bunch to learn. Soil, grass, insects, cattle genetics, cuts of beef and even website design are just some of the skills we’ve acquired over the last 20 years and we still try to learn something new every week. What we learned along the way is that quality counts, and we believe you can taste quality in all of our products.
The Local Bull's
Philosophy
Our philosophy on ranching, and really on life in general, is show up. Make a solid effort, keep an open mind, keep learning and know you will make mistakes. Easy isn’t the goal. Nor is perfection. Producing something better is. Better for us, the cattle and the land. We think how you treat your animals and the land says a lot about you. Mother Nature throws curve balls (as well as fast balls and screwballs – and sometimes she throws at your head). What works this year might not next year. Keep your chin up and make sure you’re grinning. When a calf kicks you in the head, sometimes laughing is all you can do (that and hope you don’t get kicked too often!) Maybe, if we do it well enough, enough folks will purchase our products and allow us to keep doing what we are doing. That, in a nutshell, is our ranching philosophy and our hope. We thank you for trying our products. Take care!
